Bob Stichter, the builder of these wooden steam train replicas, is a retired brick mason. He has always been interested in carpentry, his profession prior to becoming a mason.
He has designed and handcrafted furniture, made wooden aircraft, as well as created wooden clocks from various types of wood, including recovered barn siding. At the timehe was laying brick for a living, he was making clocks and airplanes "on the side" as his hobby.
He has always been partial to the steam train and needed a project to keep him occupied in retirement. So the journey began, building many of the locomotives that used to steam the rails so long ago.
After retiring from his masonry work, he decided to make a replica of a steam engine from Model Railroader Cyclopedia-Volume 1 STEAM LOCOMOTIVES. Since he did not know anything about "scales" for model engines, his scale turned out to be a bit larger than "G". Instead of being one half inch to the foot, it is nine sixteenth inch to the foot.
